Re: [Arachnoiditis] Need to understand what is Arach

Thank you Don & Jeanie - Your story is inspiring and hopeful.  I am 49, had fibromyalgia first, then a back surgery as a disc had broken and pieces were floating around in the spinal canal and had to be removed.  They think that is what may have caused the Arach (the scaring)  I seem to scar very badly and easily as when I had carpal tunnel surgery I had all kinds of scar tissue they had to break up before they could do the surgery.
Its interesting, I was a master gardener and of course tho I don't do my volunteer hours to be "official" did a lot of landscaping for people.  My husband is a special ed teacher in a local high school, and his kids of course aren't terribly handicapped, but enough so they need some help.  I used to hire them sometimes to do the hard work.  How I'd love to do that again.  I also have a few dogs I used to show and I'd love to do that again.  I too had a wonderful job, worked as a sales person for General Electric.  I just feel so bad watching my husband working his butt off at his job, then bailing hay all summer (I had horses and we raised our own beef and beef to sell to others organically -turkeys for thanksgiving also).  I only have one horse left that for some reason won't sell, so she's still here and we kept two cows for our own consumption)  We used to be able to take vacations in the summer but now we rather he  has to stick around to be able to cut and bale and do all the heavy work that I used to be able to help him with.  Not to mention the lack of my income which was comparable to his.  I just feel awful asking Jeff (husband) to do ANYTHING for me, he gets annoyed when I try to pick up or move anything heavy or do something I shouldn't probably do, which I'll try to do through the pain so I don't have to keep asking him for help.  How does Jeanie handle that?  Do you think she'd mind giving me her "take" on that aspect.
Jeff's a wonderful husband, but what is too much to ask for? Thanks a jigazillion, (that's a lot)  Sue

Sue,
Hi Don here.
I too had a really well paying job and was in the $150,000.00 plus area. I had a business I built up over a 33 year period. It is all gone. All my money is gone too. The lake house, the boats, the everything except my wife. Praise God for Jeanie.

I tried to work for two years after I found out but I finally had to give into not being able too at 48 years old. It sucked big time. And then everything had to be sold just to try to pay medical bills etc. I am sure you know the story.
I got very depressed and as a man that could not support my family any longer it was so hard on me. When you get depressed you either do not eat or you do eat. I sat around and could not do a thing physically any longer and I got up to almost 370 LBS. I know it is bad but I did it. It was out of Character for me. As I gained weight my pain got worse as well as other things.
Last November 30 I decided to loose weight. I got a book at WalMart called (A WEEK IN THE ZONE) it was $7.95. I followed it to the letter and now I am down 120 lbs. I am in better shape than when I played High school football. I feel 19 years old again. It is awesome.I can out shovel my boys as we move dirt & rocks.I still hurt as the weather changes, I can not walk as well as before, I lose my balance sometimes but not too bad.
I have a Morphine Pump and it was set at 22 but now is at 7. I was on 38 pills a day but now take only 4. NO PAIN KILLERS. I used to take 5 shots a day for diabetes but NONE now.
I was able to get my older boys interested in landscaping as I had done for 35 years. The three of us are going slow but we work almost everyday. I love it. I can only work 5 or 6 hours a day but I do not care.I am able to be my own self again. Praise God.
I will never be the same as I once was just because if for no other reason, we get older but I just go on and try to forget that I have these troubles and do the very best that I can. I just give it 150% everyday and I am getting the smile on my face again that was lost I thought for ever.
It took a lot of hard work, Not giving into the doctors ways of doing things but rather following my heart. I give all the credit to God first and then to Jeanie my wife of 27 years. She is awesome. If I can help, just ask. I do not know everything but I have seen a lot since this came into my life 6 years ago.
Take care, God Bless, Don
