Hi to all. Well I am gonna try and make this short. Myself and my husband flew to see Dr. Burton on Monday. I am gonna say that he is a good dcotor, but we were very upset with him. I have already spoken to Bill and Roger about this, He said that the bars, cage and eight pedical screwes all need to come out ASAP. My surgeon that did both my surgeries had never mentioned this to us ever. It cost us $1,000.00 to have him tell us that, and that only. He would not answer any questions that we had and I had 4 pages of them.
Everytime I or my husband would ask him a question he would say I can't answer any questions. That was very upsetting for us. The only thing that he would say was to get this metal out of me ASAP. Dr. Burton had already looked and all my mri's, cat scans and x-rays and all medical notes a few months before we went to him. Then to pay a thousand dollars was very upsetting to us. Please don't get me wrong he is a good doctor when it comes to Arac, but we just were very unhappy about the questions we had.
Dr. Burton also stated to us that a morphine pump nobody should have unless they have less then 3 months to live. Well see my pain doctor and I have been talking about that. But as of now that will have to be put on hold, until after I have all this taken out of me. I  myself know many people that have the pumps and it has given them a better life. He did tell me in my report and also while we were there that I did have adhesive arac. After I have this metal taken out he will read a mri not a disk for no charge, which I think that is due us.
Would I go to him again, yes but I would do things a bit different, as he didn't tell us anything else but to have the metal taken out. He could of put that in my report after he had looked at my mri's instead of telling me that he would look at them at no charge and not making us spend $1,000.00 after we got there.
We were also upset because when I made the appt. his nurse asked me for all my ins. info and then when we got there she told us he takes no insurance. I don't know how people can go to him without some ins. plan. This hospital that he is in, they do not take anybody without ins. and they do not take the poor. If you go to this hospital and you have no ins. they send you to a diffrerent one.
Also Dr. Burton believes in doing exercise and alot of it. We told him that I try and I do walk but that there are days and alot of them that I can't even dress myself. He doesn't believe in pain killers and that the brain should be able to let the indorfins  work, which I also do believe, but when you are in pain you need something. He stated at least 5 times that I had adhesive arac and alot of you no how painful that is. I would do anything to get off pain killers, and will try someday down the road, but no until after all this is over with.
This is one thing that really upsets me is that when even a doctor tells you not to take pain killers and they haven't been were we are at then how do they no what we are living like day to day.
So now I am looking to find someone take this all out of me. Dr.  Burton didn't want to do the surgery, we don't no if it was because we lived so far away or because he doesn't take ins. It would be very costly for us to have him do it and we can't afford that.        . Dr. Burton told us that anytime you have all that in you that it needs to come out within 6 to 12 months. We were just so upset after hearing that. I sat in his office and crye'd , but  he didn't seem to mind. I have  a appt. with the nurosurgeon that did both my back surgeries and want to ask him why he didn't tell us that this stuff needed to come out and then go from there. We are for sure going to get at least 3 other opinions before I let anyone take this stuff out. My brother who has a great nurosurgeon I have contacted him and going to try and see what he says and then I have another nuro that I have in mind to contact.
My question is is there anybody that has ever had there bars, cage and screwes taken out and if so what happens after that. That is our main concern, what will happen to my spine after all that is taken out..Thanks for listening and any help would be appreciated. God bless to all. Becky P.
