hello
I was interested to hear about your trial of the spinal cord stimulator. I have had a stimulator since March 2002. I'm pleased to hear
that your trial has been so successful.
I had had my arachnoiditis for 25 years and after more spinal operations and procedires than I care to count I was offered the choice
of a spinal chord stimulator. It has given me my life back and while I can't climb mountains I can move around with a fairly pain free
existence. My stimulator has a battery which has a life of 7,000 hours so I'm told but when it wears out the battery has to be replaced.
It is controlled by an external hand unit to regulate the strength and spread of stimulation.
I'm pleased to hear that someone else has gained pain relief from a spinal cord stimulator.

everyone is doing better!
My pain had become so intense that I agreed to have a trial implant of a spinal stimulator. It is
basically a wire lead inserted into the spine, leading to a small computer which has custom
programs designed to relieve my pain. The trial lasts for five days. If I get relief and want to
have the permanent implant, they withdraw the single lead, wait for a couple of weeks, and then
implant two leads, and an implanted control computer, which has a rechargeable battery.
There is an external device which I can use to control the amount of current, and where it goes.
I'm very happy to say that so far it has worked wonders. I am able to stand for much longer
periods of time. The pain in my legs and feet has been replaced by a pleasant electrical stimulus.
I have until Monday to decide if I am going to keep it.
If anyone has had experience with this, I'd like to hear your experiences, even if they are
negative.
Kindest regards from Tampa,
Jay M.
