Hi Health Activists,
One of the most important factors in the longer life expectancies in the
more developed countries of the world is the existence of a relatively clean
and healthy water supply. Not only do people drinik the water, but most of
the food grown and prepared to nourish and sustain the population is
produced using clean water. Once the water supply is degraded, the health of
the
population deteriorates at a frightening pace. Much of the spread of
unusual cancer clusters come on the heels of these exposures.

The immediate threat comes from the expansion of new natural gas drilling
operations. These operations involve the use of volatile organic compounds
including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene. In 2005 the Congress
exempted oil and gas companies from Safe Drinking Water Act and do not have to
disclose what chemicals are used in their operations.
There are plans to drill in the New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware Water Gap.
Adverse reports have been coming in from Colorodo, Wyoming,New Mexico and
Texas and Dimmock,Pennsylvania.

For further information go to _www.DamascusCitizens.org_

Sometime this week both houses of Congress are going to vote related bills
that will greatly impact natural gas drilling in watershed areas. Please
email and call your congressperson and Senators in support of the Fracturing
Responsibility and Awareness of Chemicals Act (FRAC). In the house the
bill is HR 2766, go to _www.house.gov_ (http://www.house.gov) and put in your
zip code to find out your congressperson. Send an email and call asking
the member to support HR 2766 revoking the exemption from the Safe Drinking
Water Act.
In the Senate the bill is S 1215. Go to _www.senate.gov_
(http://www.senate.gov)
each state has 2 senators. Find the Senators from your state and email and
call them asking to support S.1215 revoking the exemptions for oil and gas
companies from the Safe Drinking water act.
For NY senators are: Senator Kristin Gillibrand 202-224-4451
Senator Charles Schumer 202-224-6542
For PA senators are: Senator Arlen Spector 202-224-4254
Senator Bob Casey 202-224-6324
