Description
This group was created to provide a forum for alpaca owners who are either experiencing health challenges with their alpacas, especially those that may be or are definitely life-threatening, and for owners who have experienced the loss of alpacas from their herds.
When an alpaca becomes ill, the symptoms can often be very subtle and quick action is required. During birth various complications sometimes arise, and one can only do the best one can do in an attempt to aid the situation and ensure the safety of both dam and cria.
The death, or passing, of any being is a significant transition for all involved. Healing and comfort can come with time... for mourning, opportunities for exploration of "what happened?" and empathetic sharing with others who have experienced the same, often helpless feelings associated with the usually sudden death of a beloved alpaca. These quiet, gentle souls very quickly attach to our hearts, and when they pass from expression on this earth, it is painful to the caregivers, "shepherds," farmers and friends of these wonderful animals.
Here, at Alpaca Support, one can share their experiences and ask questions of others who have experienced "near-misses," serious health challenges with their alpaca(s), or perhaps painfully endured the loss of an alpaca, or even multiple losses. This is the place to explore options for deeper research into possible cause of death, preventative measures that can be taken, and the place to explore answers to "What NOW?"
It is the hope of the owner of this site that this forum will provide not only support and guidance, wisdom and knowledge for those seeking help, but that it will also lift the spirits of those feeling down and perhaps discouraged to the point where they actually consider walking away from a life with alpacas. THAT would be a great tragedy... So, perhaps thru this site, we can find each other, support each other, and SUPPORT ALPACAS.

Re: Newbie
Hi Cheryl, Thanks for your reply. When Crystal lost her baby, I was ready to sell every damn one. And then when Aran died, I thought about selling again.

Good morning Jim, I have read your posts with much dismay. I had some problems when I started with my alpacas in 2002, too, but not to the extent that you
