My stationary bike is sitting in my diningroom. I can see it from
almost everywhere so it continually reminds me to get on it! As long
as I can peddle happily along reading some juicy movie magazine, I do
well. But when I've gone through the People magazine, as well as the
2 others then that's when I don't want to bicycle. I have to
though..... to avoid getting stiff, I have to keep moving.

fitday.com is a free excellent way to record everything you're eating
so you can see if there's something in your daily diet that is a bit
more high in calories than you'd like and then you can omit it, etc.
This website will also let you enter your daily exercise as well as a
daily journal and daily weight.
Moe, that's awesome that you have lost 4 pounds.
I got waylaid last weekend and ate badly that entire weekend so I
rapidly picked up 2 pounds. I'll have to really try to break that 177
pound barrier that I'm on.
I hate to give up everything I like... I've given alot of it up and
switched it for something less caloric.

This is the all girl back country Denali trip Moe and I are planning.
Sometime in August, when the blueberries are ripe I am thinking. YES
YOU SHOULD COME on the bus. That would be so much fun.

I am sorry that I was so confused. I was thinking of that other hike
somebody mentioned. I wasn't picturing you going into Denali. Now the bus
trip makes sense. When are you planning to go? I am so tempted to go along.

Well since you know you can't drive into Denali (and that is where we
are planning this trip for) you must take the bus in. Back country
campers buy a camper bus ticket, regular people just buy a regular bus
ticket. Same price, same type of bus but the camper bus has rear most
seats taken out for gear storage of those going to camp in the back
country. And the nice part is they are normally less crowded, have less
toursity type of people on them. So you take the bus in and get out at
your section which you choose when you apply for your back country
permit the day before (or of, if you are not too picky about where you
go). So you can buy a bus ticket, you don't have to get off. Just go
for the ride.

Hey Pam, how about just going on the bus with us? You can ride and
enjoy the sites and we could all visit and point out sites to each
other. You can ride the bus back to the parking lot right to your car!
Georganne
In my imagination, I can picture myself hiking right alongside you. Then I
remember that hiking down my stairs is a major expedition for me.
That would be a good goal for me to pursue, building up my stamina so that
I could go on a hike. I probably wouldn't reach the goal this summer, but
maybe by next year. At least it's worth pursuing.

Eh, I have GAINED 10 lbs since Justin has gotten here. He lost so much
weight I have been trying to fatten him up but it is backfiring. If I
don't buy ice cream I am fine. Once it is in the house though, it's
fair game.

Well don't worry too much. With that much weight on my back I certainly
don't travel fast. Besides, remember I am a smoker so that slows me
down I know. We'll just hike far enough off the road to be legal, drop
our packs and make camp, then go on hikes from there, using that as our
base.

I like to make blueberry smoothies for Greg and I. I first put in ice
in my blender and shave it down to a fine powder; then I put in a
container of blueberries; about 1/2 contaner of light soy milk; about
2 small envelopes of splenda. It is delicious! low cal and super
good for you.

Pam,
Could you use your milkshake maker to make smoothies?? A while back
I bought a big bag of frozen berries from Costco and started doing
smoothies w/the hand blender. Berries, low fat plain yougurt and
frozen oj. They were very good. I'm sure there were plenty of
calories. But no fat. I will admit that I did make one w/vanilla
ice cream and it was very, very good. But the plain smoothie was
very good at least.

Well, folks, I lost all my Alaskan Exercisers messages in my computer
problems. ( http://perils.pamelajoy.com/ ) so I guess, it's out of sight,
out of mind, just like my rear end. ;)
My son hauled my exercise bike upstairs when he cleaned out the greenhouse
to start planting. Unfortunately he put it on the deck, and then we had a
bunch of rain. I finally got myself down to the store to buy a tarp to
keep it dry. Now I can't use "the seat is wet" as an excuse not to use it.
Now I use, "it's too hot to exercise" as my excuse. LOL
How are you doing with your goal to exercise?

*Breaking Activism Alert!*
* Take Action: Support Bill To Trim the Fat From Public Schools! *
In an October, 2004 activism alert
<http://srv.ezinedirector.net/?n=723469&s=28503474> Mothering urged
readers to support Senator Ted
Kennedy’s “toughest bill yet to ban junk food in schools.”
Last Friday, Senator Kennedy re-introduced the bill, aimed at stopping
the sale of junk food and soda pop in public schools nationwide. The
bill is called the "Prevention of Childhood Obesity Act" (S. 799), and
it has several excellent provisions.
Most importantly, in schools that receive federal funds, the bill would
ban vending machines that sell "foods of poor or minimal nutritional
value," including soda pop, some candy, chewing gum, etc. It would
provide grants to schools that prohibit advertising and marketing of
"foods of poor or minimal nutritional values such as fast foods, soft
drinks and candy," or provide food options low in fat, calories and
added sugars, such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains. It would
require daily physical activity classes, and would encourage the
consumption of water in school and in communities.
The bill ought to be overwhelmingly popular. According to a Wall Street
Journal poll in February, 2005, 83% of Americans "believe public schools
need to do a better job of limiting children's access to unhealthy foods
like snack foods, sugary soft drinks and fast food."
Of course, our nation's obesity lobby (our largest food and beverage
companies, media conglomerates and advertising agencies) will likely do
everything they can to oppose the legislation.
Please take these two simple steps to get this bill co-sponsored by your
US senators:
1) Click here <http://srv.ezinedirector.net/?n=723470&s=28503474> to
send emails to your senators in support of the bill. Or if you want to
call your senators, the congressional switchboard phone is 202.225.3121.
2) Forward this email to everyone you know who cares about children, and
ask them to take action now.

I was wondering why I got three of these. At first I thought something was
wrong with my e-mail again. ;)
I am not interested in a martial arts class.

Guidelines for the Alaskan Exercisers Group
*Stay on topic. What's the topic?
Exercising, dieting, and recipes to help us reach our goals.
*Remember: this is a G-rated group.
*Trim your posts.
Get rid of that advertising and Yahoo links at the end of the message. It
will be added again and again. So don't worry about losing it. *grin*
Delete as much of the old post as you can. Leave some of it so we know
what part you are referring to in your reply.
* Everyone on this group is expected to know the Core Rules of Netiquette.
If you aren't sure you do, then read:
http://www.albion.com/netiquette/corerules.html
*Only members may post to Alaskan Exercisers.
Send your messages to alaskanexercisers@yahoogroups.com
*Crossposting is not allowed on this group. Crossposting is sending the
same message to several different e-mail lists. When you reply, make sure
your message is only going to one group.
*Please, original posts only. Do not forward messages from other people
or groups. We'd like to hear your personal experiences and opinions,
not those of someone who does not belong to the Alaskan Exercises group.
One exception to this rule is recipes. Send links to recipes when
possible.
*When you reply to a message, please remove the old Yahoo footers and the
parts of the previous message that are irrelevant to your reply. It is
considered good Netiquette to edit your posts:
"When quoting another person, edit out whatever isn't directly applicable to
your reply. Don't let your mailing or Usenet software automatically quote
the entire body of messages you are replying to when it's not necessary.
Take the time to edit any quotations down to the minimum necessary to
provide context for your reply. Nobody likes reading a long message in
quotes for the third or fourth time, only to be followed by a one line
response: 'Yeah, me too.'"
- quoted from http://www.fau.edu/netiquette/net/dis.html
*Copyrighted media should not be posted to this group. Fair-use quotations
are allowed but not copyrighted articles or essays.
*This list is set to remove attachments before forwarding the messages to
the group.
*Please do not send off-topic messages to the group address. When you want
to write about other topics than exercising or dieting, please continue
your discussion in e-mail.
*If your question is not answered the first time, rephrase it and ask again.
We may not be home, and our laptop is too heavy to type while jogging.
*Please be kind to the newbies. Remember, you were new once, too.
-------------------------
Advertising and Selling
-------------------------
*A contributing member of the Alaskan Exercisers group may post a brief
announcement selling goods or services. Please conduct any transactions
off list via telephone or e-mail.
*Any other advertising is not allowed on the Alaskan Exercisers group.
*Political advertising or announcements are not allowed.
*Please keep your signature to a maxiumum of 4 lines.

Had the opportunity to go geocaching this weekend and had great fun. I
took a coworker on her first geocaching expidition and she was asking
how much gps' cost by the time we were half done lol. We went in search
of one then I let her "find" mine all by herself. Anyway here are the
pictures.

Good for you!!!
I am glad to hear that someone is motivated! or at least working out when the
chance is there. Hopefully your knee won't cause you too much pain.

Today I actually got on my exercise bike. I usually dread it because it is
in the basement, and I have to go down a flight of stairs to get there and
that aggravates my knee. Yesterday I canceled a trip out to visit my
grandson because it hurt so bad.
This time I was already in the basement, and I saw the exercise bike there
calling my name. So I got on it and started riding. I was pleasantly
surprised that my knee didn't hurt becuase it was hurting a lot coming down
the stairs.
I think I will set up a television down there and watch a specific program
each day while I ride the bike. Hmmm... now to pick a program. I rarely
watch daytime tv.
