More restrictions? Your senator voted yes!
Urge Your Senator to Sustain the Governor's Veto!
Dear James,
As you may know, earlier this month the Governor vetoed H Sub SB 389,
this year's abortion restriction bill. Unfortunately, many of the
legislators who had issues with various provisions of the bill
decided to vote for this dangerous legislation anyway.
Tell your senator: No matter the vote margin, women's health is not a
political football.

This bill is not what Kansas needs. Rather than focusing on
prevention, legislators have yet again focused on restrictions. In
addition to allowing parents, siblings and grandparents to intervene
in an adult women's personal right to choose whether or not to
continue a pregnancy, H Sub SB 389 also allows any "public official"
to intervene without defining who is a public official. The bill
expands the authority of district attorneys throughout the state and
increases the number of legal actions that can be brought against
abortion providers and their staff. Increasing the number of people
who may bring actions under Kansas abortion law will only increase
the time and money wasted in this manner.
Women's health care is not a game – tell your legislator that voting
for this bill was a vote against women.
Kansas already has some of the strictest laws governing abortion care
in the country, yet legislators are spending significant amounts of
time making it more unsafe by reducing access to women across the
state.
Let's send them a message – Popularity contests aside, women's health
should be a priority.
Soon, the Senate will be voting to override the Governor's veto of
this legislation. We will keep you updated as it moves forward.
Thanks for your continued support of women's health!
Sincerely,
Planned Parenthood

Subject: Women's Health Matters
Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],
Rather than enacting legislation that endangers the health and safety
of Kansas women, I believe that the responsible way to support Kansas
women and families is to focus on prevention and provide them with
comprehensive information and education about how to stay safe and
healthy.
Therefore, I ask that you support the Governor's veto of H Sub SB 389
and oppose any attempt to override that veto.
The common-sense approach to this issue is prevention and I expect
you to work to prevent unintended pregnancies through practical and
proven programs such as comprehensive sex education and access to
birth control.
Sincerely,
James Nordlund

What's At Stake:
This bill is not just about late term abortions or protecting women
from coercion. Far from protecting women, this bill is intended to
put up roadblocks between women and their choice of reproductive
health care.
The people of Kansas agree that decreasing the abortion rate can best
be accomplished though proven prevention programs like comprehensive
sex education and access to birth control.
Decisions about child bearing should be made by a woman, in
consultation with her family, her doctor, and her conscience, not the
government or politicians.
Restricting access to safe and legal abortions does not restrict
access to unsafe options.
