Coalition / Comprehensive Immigration: Reform General Updates: 6/8/   Message List

CCIR NEWS & INFORMATION- 6/8/07

Last night, the Senate voted 45-50 against a motion for cloture.
What a
cloture motion does is to limit debate to 30 more hours, after which
time
the Senate would have vote on passage of the bill itself. Normally,
a vote
of this nature signals how a Senator intends to vote on the final
passage of
the bill. To see how your Senators voted (provided by Roll Call),
Click
Here. The CCIR statement on the vote is attached to this e-mail.

"Though deeply disappointed, we stand up for the dignity of the
hardworking
men, women and children who live in even greater fear tonight that
they did
this morning as a result of the inaction by the Senate." Clarissa
Martinez,
Campaign Manager for the Coalition for Comprehensive Immigration
Reform.

We will continue to fight for workable legislation that respects
workers and
families, better than the legislation that failed to move forward
last
night. The issue is not going to go away and neither are the 12
million
people still living in the shadows.

You can make the difference! Get in touch with your Senators today.
Call
them on the phone and talk to them about their vote. If they voted
for
cloture, thank them and ask them to keep working to achieve true
reform this
year. If they voted against cloture, ask them why they support a
broken
immigration system when the vast majority of Americans want
solutions. You
can use our 1-800 numbers to dial in - 1-800-417-7666.

You can also Write them a letter urging them to keep families united,
protect workers and respect due process by supporting reform.

You can sign a prepared letter and it will be sent directly to your
representatives or you can print it out and send it through the mail.

The time to act is now!

Regards,

The Coalition for Comprehensive Immigration Reform
