ARTISTE PROFILE

The incomparable pair of stylists, Raja & Radha Reddy, hailing
from
the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, have given a new dimension to
the
age-old art of Kuchipudi classical dance without sacrificing the
traditional
poetry or dramatic sensibility. With rare excellence and perfection
of
technique, they stand tall on the highest stage of Kuchipudi, one of
the major
classical dance forms of India.

The dancing duo has been honoured with many prestigious National
awards
& titles such as Padmashree, Padmabhushan (from the Indian
Government) and
Sangeet Natak Academy Award. The have been proud participants in
several
International Festivals such as the Festival D'Avignon in France,
Salzburg
Festival in Austria, the Edinburgh Festival in UK, All Star Ballet
Gala
festival in Japan and International Dance festivals in the United
States

Through their togetherness and perfect unison, Raja and Radha Reddy
portray the masculine vigour and lyrical charm of the classical
pairs of Hindu
mythology, such as Shiva-Parvati, Rama-Sita and Krishna-Radha, thus
identifying themselves with the twin concept of Purusha and
Prakriti, the
male-female principle in Indian philosophy. In precise postures
and refined
patterns, the duo re-enlivens the magnificent sculptures chiseled in
the
ancient temples of India.

Raja & Radha Reddy have formulated a syllabus for the Kuchipudi
repertoire
systematizing the basic movements and mudras. They choreograph each
item
in an attempt to make Kuchipudi classical dance form acceptable to
modern
cosmopolitan audiences. What started out as a passion has now
changed into
a lifestyle, with both maestros working indefatigably towards
initiating
fresh talent into the cultural paradigm and perpetuating this art
form.

The duo's art became complete when Radha's younger sister
Kaushalaya
joined them as a partner on stage and in real life. With the
inclusion of
their two daughters Yamini and Bhavana Reddy in this discipline, the
team of
Kuchipudi performers has now become the Kuchipudi family like the
panchendriyaas (five senses) and the panchtatvaas (five elements)
the human body
is made up of.

On Aug 19 (Sat) at The Neurosciences Institute Performing Arts
Theater
in San Diego, the inimitable Raja Radha Reddy & family will present
Parampara, an absorbing re-creation of the ecstatic times when the
celestial
dances of HARI and HARA mesmerized the sagacious connoisseurs. The
Reddy
family will present an assortment of solo, duets and group items
through out
the evening.
