Hi friends. I am forwarding you a message that MAINstream sent to its
list
serve on Thursday. We are having good response thus far those who
have
received the message, but we need to reach way beyond the traditional
"MAINstream Coalition" borders.

I am asking you to do 2 things: 1) consider adding yourself to the
growing
list of Mainstream Voices of Faith, if you are comfortable and
interested
in doing so and 2) get this word out to the circles where you have
contacts and influence. We need this to be an effort that reaches
across
geography and faith traditions.

Along with conducting programming, this is an effort to
collect "voices"
so that we can create a force that can legitimately say that there
are
thousands of Kansans and Missourians who are not represented by the
very loud
voice of the Religious Right. I have a press release and other
information
if you would like to see more information about this emerging
movement.

Mainstream Voices of Faith: Energized Neighbors United for Faith and
Freedom (ENUFF).

Mission Statement: Mainstream Voices of Faith: Energized Neighbors
United
for Faith and Freedom (ENUFF) is a religious coalition, rooted in
love and
compassion, which promotes a thoughtful and inclusive approach to
issues
of faith and public policy.

Statement of Purpose: Mainstream Voices of Faith will meet this
mission
through the identification of clergy, laypersons and religious
leaders who
share this vision. We seek to organize, mobilize, educate and be
vocal
about issues where faith and public policy come together. Mainstream
Voices of
Faith will hold educational forums and workshops related to social,
political and religious issues, especially as they confront us
locally and
regionally. We will create public statements that reflect a yearning
for
openness, inclusion, acceptance and tolerance among people of faith.

Mainstream Voices of Faith will also provide an opportunity for those
who
identify with Mainstream Voices of Faith to know that they have
friends
and neighbors who are like-minded in their approach to issues of
faith and
public policy.

Current steering committee members include: Rev. Thom Belote (Shawnee
Mission Unitarian Universalist Church), Rev. Heather Entrekin
(Prairie Baptist
Church), Rabbi Mark Levin (Congregation Beth Torah), Rev. John
Tamilio
(The Colonial United Church of Christ), Lois Culver, JoAnn DeFrain,
Lucia
Orth, and Jeanie Schiefelbusch. The steering committee meets for the
first
time on June 29. We'd love to hand them a list of hundreds of names!
