This is a tribute message to a courageous woman who battled Multiple Sclerosis
for most of her adult life without the help of medications, but with the help of
her doctors, her spirit, and the power of god. A woman who always had a smile
on her face even when pain could and should have wiped her beautiful smile, and
personality away. She and her loving husband Grover didn't have any biological
kids of their own, but she was truly, in every way that counts, a wonderful
aunt, mom, grandma, and friend too many people. She lived a very full life and
she will be much missed. Some people leave this world never to be thought of
again but Martha K. Montgomery will be missed, but never will she be forgotten!
Martha K. Montgomery, 73, of Pendleton, Kentucky, died on Wednesday, January 11,
2006 at the University of Louisville, Kentucky hospital. She was born on October
5, 1932 in Trimble County, Kentucky to Jack and Mary (Arnett) Greenwood. She was
a retired banker at Citizen’s Fidelity Bank of Louisville, Kentucky. She was a
member of the Silo Baptist church in Silo, Kentucky where she also started a
newsletter for her Sunday school class. She was a volunteer for the Multiple
Sclerosis Society for 30 years, wrote the society's newsletter for 10 to 15
years, and received their Lifetime Achievement Award. She also received the Bell
Award, the Spirit of Louisville Award, and a Kentucky State Activist Award from
the governor. She wrote for the Trimble News-Democrat, and was a modern
woodsman. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers; Allen, and
Paul. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Grover; a sister, Francis Davis
of Hanover, Indiana; a nephew, Larry (Sharon) Greenwood of Milton, Kentucky;
three great nieces; one great nephew; and ten great-great nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the Silo,
Kentucky Baptist church with the Reverends Dale Hanson, Brad Lau Binger and
Wayne Perry officiating. Burial followed at the Silo Cemetery. Pallbearers were
Steven Reform, Tim Obeah, Barry Sanders, Paul Neal, Randy Griffin and Glen
Greenwood. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Tubs, Warren Wheeler, Jerry Ranking,
Jim Markham and Forest Baker. Expressions of sympathy were asked to be made in
honor of Martha as Contributions to the "Multiple Sclerosis Society"
This was lovingly written to honor you Martha by the Secretary of the
“Kentuckian Guardian Angels” Multiple Sclerosis support group whose group name
will be officially changed as of this date to the "Martha Montgomery Pit
Academy” Multiple Sclerosis support group" …God bless you, Martha.
