My name is Sylvia and I have a diagnosis of Probable MS. I had an MRI 20 years
ago that said MS. However, since I had migraines, and the doc thought it was
just migraines, the MS was ignored. The 5 years later, again I had an MRI for
the migraines, and again the MRI was changes in the white matter consistent with
MS. Again ignored.
Now I am having some interesting and scary things happening to me. I have pain
from my neck to my waist and around the left side, including my arm. The pain
is though I hit my elbow, but it goes on 24/7. I tend to want to stumble and
get dizzy in the shower. I can see what I want to say, but often times takes 5
minutes or more to say the words. I also have familial tremors.
My new doc (I moved from California to Texas) has been trying to help with the
pain, but unsuccessfully. Finally I told him about the previous MRI's and that
I wondered if my old docs were ignoring something. Well, I had an MRI a week
ago, and guess what. Yup, changes in the white matter consistent with MS. The
contrast did not show any active lesions, thank God. I am on Valium right now,
and it is helping a whole lot.
My question is this. My doc is sending me to a specialist, and I will be having
a lumbar puncture for oligobands and myelin basic protein. I expect that since
the MRI did not show any active lesions, these test will be negative. If so,
are the docs going to say I do not have MS??
