Description

Welcome! This site is dedicated to, and operated by, survivors of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), an aggressive and relatively rare subtype of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Because of its rarity, and because the symptoms and treatment of APL are quite different from those of other leukemias, patients often have difficulty finding the specific information they need. The opportunity to interact with other APL patients is also hard to find in most communities, where support groups tend to be focused on the more common types of leukemia. The APL Web Center was created to help meet these needs by providing basic information about APL and a forum where APL patients, and those who care about them, can share their concerns and experiences.

To access the information about APL symptoms, demographics, diagnostic tests and treatments, go to Files on the menu at left. These files contain exerpts from the book Jeanne LaTorre (the site manager) is writing for APL patients. You will also find a glossary there to aid you in understanding the information available from outside medical sources. If you have any comments or questions about this site, the information posted here, or about APL in general, you may contact Jeanne directly at L8Bloomr@sbcglobal.net.

You may post a message or question to members of the APL Survivors Group below, whether or not you want to become a member yourself. However, joining takes just a minute, it's free, and your e-mail address will not be shared with anyone outside this group who might send you spam. (Yahoo will have it, of course--I confess I don't know what the consequences of that are).
