This is an ADVANCED autism-diet discussion group moderated by ANDI, the Autism Network for Dietary Intervention.
NOTE: If you are new to dietary intervention, please do not post questions to this list unless you have first checked the archives at a beginner list such as http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/gfcfkids.
ANDI has been dedicated to helping parents implement gluten- and casein-free diets for over ten years. In that time, many parents have found that additional gains have been made by further limiting the diet to exclude other foods (e.g. soy and corn). Some children are also showing very positive responses to some additional dietary interventions -- often developed for people with various gastrointestinal (GI) disorders.
The purpose of this list is to provide a forum for discussion regarding advanced dietary treatment options such as the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), the Body Ecology Diet (BED), grain-free, sugar-free, low oxalates, supplementation, and other dietary interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders. Please remember that although there may be medical practitioners on this list, the ideas shared here are not intended as medical advice, and every parent must make such decisions with the help of an informed physician. Because every child is different, each may need a slightly different treatment plan, with differing levels of compliance.
Particpants must be respectful of others at all times if they wish to remain on the list, and they must identify themselves (sign all posts with at least a first name).
If you are just beginning to implement these interventions, and are looking for answers to specific cooking or dietary compliance questions, we would suggest that you join the GF/CF list at www.gfcfdiet.com, and/or the SCD support group at www.pecanbread.com, where most basic questions are discussed and have been covered in the archives.
