RE: [AL_WAPF] which oils are safe?

Tonya-

From what I have read only coconut and palm oils should be heated.  If we cook something with oil we only use those-(Spectrum Organic Shortening is 100% Palm Oil).  Extra Virgin Olive Oil should only be eaten cold - the same for the other oils but you want to make sure they are stored correctly and are not rancid.  We cook our popcorn in coconut oil (from Wilderness Family Naturals) and it has no coconut taste..

HTH-

By the way, I just sent in an application to find out more info in setting up a WAPF chapter between Troy and Dothan.. will let you all know as I learn more.

Subject: [AL_WAPF] which oils are safe?

I'm a little confused about which oils are safe to use. I thought only coconut oil and olive oil, but NT has some recipes that use sesame oil, and I often hear palm oil mentioned. And now after reading several posts, etc, I'm coming to the realization that (for whatever reason) regular olive oil isn't okay, just EVOO. Is coconut oil the same? I've only bought virgin coconut oil, but I like regular olive oil when I need something flavorless, and it's great at higher temps (popcorn!). Maybe I can use the palm oil during those occasions ... Can someone clarify all this for me? Much thanks! Tonya
