corn syrup in pickles   Message List

In trying to keep with WAPF principles. we've been cooking more at home in order to avoid the bad stuff restaurants etc put im the food. One thing we're trying to be scrupulous about is avoiding corn syrup.I'm continually amazed at how many products you'd never expect to have corn syrup in them, do, like crackers, for instance.

Anyway, I was making potato salad and needed pickle relish. Went to the store and could not find any that did not have corn syrup added. The same companies that made pickles with no CS added CS to their pickle relish. I ended up chopping regular pickles fine to use in my salad.

Since then I've looked some more and found 2 brand that don't have CS - one uses regular sugar (and, I suspect, MSG as a "natural flavor") and the other uses Splenda. I'm not happy with either option and continue to mince pickles. Anyone know of a pickle relish without CS? BTW, it's not just so-called sweet relish - I ran into it with the dill "salad cubes" as well.

Thanks
