MDA and ALSA have lots of good info and good newsletters. I suggest
you
join both. ALSA has a series of handbooks on managing every aspect
of ALS
"Living with ALS Manuals" that you can order for free or view
online. ALSA
has videos and other good info online too.

I recommend reading this to all newly diagnosed PALS. Tips for
Newly-Diagnosed ALS Patients from Will Hubben

A great site on Communication devices is Joe Harris' Advocacy for
PALS

A great article I think everyone should read because it's so
eloquently
written by Jerry Gladman a PALS going through ALS. It really
captures The
five stages most PALS & CALS go through. Denial, anger, bargaining,
depression and acceptance. It's a long but worthwhile read.

Becoming or being born disabled once meant a difficult life. Today,
there
are resources available to help disabled people thrive.
DisabilityInfo. gov
is one such resource. This site has information to guide you through
every
aspect of life. Education, employment, transportation and housing
are just
a few.
For acronyms used in ALS:

This website's hints are not all suitable for PALS, but some are
really
great

This was developed as a site where PALS could share reviews of
equipment
they use or have tried with others looking to buy equipment. It has
grown
to include a "Do It Yourself" section where members can share
descriptions
and plctures of handy things they have created to deal with
disability. Tip
sheets were added to collect the bits of hard earned knowledge on all
aspects of ALS care that pass through the message board every day,
but this
section is very sparse right now. Another section is for sharing the
home
remodeling projects that are part of living with ALS. There is also a
recipe section for those with swallowing problems.

Please take a few minutes to explore the website and, as you go
about the
business of living with ALS, please take the time to contribute to
the site
and help make it even more useful!
