Description
Lead poisoning is the number one preventable childhood disease in the United States. Many falsely believe that lead poisoning is eradicated, long gone after lead was removed from paint (1978), gasoline & soldered canned goods. Unfortunately, our children live in a toxic soup of chemicals, heavy metals and other poisonous substances every day.
Parents & caregivers are the ones who need to understand lead BEFORE it affects their children. Learning from other parents who have experienced lead first-hand through their children's exposures helps prevent many children from the nightmare that lead causes throughout their lives.
Children who are exposed to lead have many learning difficulties, and in an era of 'No Child Left Behind' these children are set up to fail in todays school systems. ADD, ADHD, loss of IQ points are some of the ways lead re-wires the brain, and the effects are permanent.
Lead exists primarily in old paint - a byproduct of an industry that placed more credence on 'turning lead into gold' than following medical reports that children die from lead. The first death in the US from lead was in 1914; in 2006, a child died due to lead in the newer exposure - lead in children's jewelry. Then there are the vinyl lunchboxes, mini-blinds, furniture and other recalls involving lead.
