The position of Home Coordinator I involves the supervision of day to
day operation of a mental illness residential program, and its staff,
the implementation of programs, and the liaison activities between
the program, community, and administrative staff.

Supervised by: Program Director of Deaf Services

Employees Supervised: Mental Health Technicians, Awake Staff and
Relief Staff

Division: Mental Illness

Salary Level: Level 20, 21 or 22, with level and
pay step DOE.

Normal Work Hours/Days: 40 hours per week - Monday - Friday -
varied schedule

*This employee participates on the J.B.S. "on-call" emergency back up
system. Required to carry "on-call" pager and participate on
location schedule.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the home.

Provides direct client care in the assigned residential facility for
the mentally ill.

Responsible for administrative, programmatic, and staff supervision
of the assigned residential facility.

Serves as liaison with community mental health centers, other
Authority programs, Department of Mental Health and other social
service agencies.

Responsible for the completion of case records and other related
paper work in a timely manner.

Responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the homes,
property and vehicle.

Ensure the vehicle assigned to program or stationed at the home is
maintained in accordance with the Agency's Vehicle Maintenance Policy.

Responsible for the operation of day treatment services as appropriate

Conducts special projects/assignments.

Other special duties as assigned by Director of Deaf Services.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in a social service or related curriculum and two
years' experience working with mentally ill population.

Experience supervising service provision. Experience in supervising
the operation of a residential program is preferred.

Must have intermediate plus signing skill in American Sign Language
(ASL) as measured by a recognized screening process, such as SLPI.

Thorough knowledge and understanding of Deaf Culture is required.

Valid Alabama driver's license and driving record acceptable to
agency automobile insurance carrier for inclusion on agency policy.
Suitable automobile to permit the required travel. Must show and
maintain car insurance equal to or in excess of the State of Alabama
standards for automobile insurance coverage.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Knowledge of sound mental health practices and procedures.

Understanding of mental illness and mental retardation.

Understanding of the way in which mental illness and mental
retardation can disturb a deaf person's ability to understand
communication for others and their ability to communicate to others.

Ability to acquire understanding of dysfluent sign language used by
specific service consumers who are not fully versed in ASL.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally (voice and/or sign)
and written.

Knowledge of mental illness and handicaps and their social and
vocational implications.

Knowledge of community resources.

Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.

Ability to evaluate problem situations of client care and treatment
and build rapport with them.

Knowledge of employment practices and the skills, abilities and
mental and physical demands of occupations.
