Subject: PhD scholarships extended
Importance: High

** High Priority **

Dear all

Please find attached information about two PhD scholarships being
offered at
Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia; which are due to commence as
soon
as possible. We are hoping that you can pass this information on to your
contacts, and especially to anyone that you think may be interested.

The scholarship includes salary and free PhD candidature (i.e., no
fees).

The positions are to work with me and A/Prof Trevor Johnston on
developing
an interactive SignBank for medical terminology to be used by deaf
consumers
of interpreting services, and interpreters themselves. The project is
being
funded by the Australian Research Council in collaboration with the
National
Auslan Interpreter Booking & Payment Service for medical appointments,
and
the NSW Health Care Interpreting Service.

The deadline for applications has been extended to the end of February,
to
allow us more time to fill both positions.

We are looking for a deaf or hearing person, who has excellent English
skills and is fluent in a signed language with the capacity to learn
Auslan.
Not knowing Auslan does not prevent people from being eligible.

Ideally we would also like people with experience in linguistic
research,
and/or interpreting.

Although the two positions are advertised as PhDs, there may be scope
for
one Masters scholarship or a generic research assistant position. So
please
encourage people who are not in a position to begin a PhD (because they
do
not have a Masters or Honours degree) to still contact us if they are
interested in being involved with the project.

We thank you in advance for considering/forwarding on this information.

Best regards,

Jemina & pp. Trevor
