The Interpreter Institute: Part II



A new week long course designed to provide a continued educational basis
for interpreters to work effectively in mental health settings as part
of a professional team. This course builds on the foundation provided
through the initial 40-hour training. The course includes: Case
presentation and supervision, Simultaneous and consecutive interpreting
techniques in mental health settings, Interpreting in forensic settings,
Secondary stress trauma, Working with severe language dysfluency and
Visual gestural communication, Sources of communication breakdown
associated with mental illness and treatment, and Interpreters' roles,
tools, and resources.



Presenters scheduled include:



Carolyn Ball, Robyn Dean,
Steve Hamerdinger, Michael Krajnak,
Ron Lybarger, et. al.



WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

Participants of the Alabama Mental Health Interpreter Training (MHIT)
Interpreter Institute are eligible to attend based on available
vacancies. Participants must have previously attended MHIT-1. This
training meets the continuing education training requirement of
interpreters working towards maintaining certification as a Qualified
Mental Health Interpreter according to Alabama State Code 580-3-24.



Individuals who are Deaf, especially those working in the mental health
field or who work as CDI's are encouraged to apply. We reserve the right
to cancel training if minimum class size is not obtained. In the event
of cancellation, all fees will be refunded. No voice interpreting will
be provided.





COST OF TRAINING by August 18, 2007:

Full conference fee In-State: $100
Full conference fee Out of State: $150

Daily rate: $50



COST OF TRAINING after August 18, 2007:

Full conference fee In-State: $150
Full conference fee Out of State: $200

Daily rate: $70





CEUS will be available for Interpreters, Psychologists, Social Workers,
and Counselors. The Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental
Retardation maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
