According to a study conducted by Patricia Black and Neil Glickman in 2006, the
following diagnostic results presented in deaf patients:
The most common Axis 1 diagnosis for deaf patients was PTSD (29.7%), Major
Depressive Disorder (23.4%) was the 2nd most common diagnosis for deaf patients.
39% of patients were diagnosis with at least one mood disorder.
28% were diagnosed with a psychotic disorder.
About 1/3 were diagnosed with at least one substance abuse disorder
¼ were diagnosed with a developmental disorder first evident in infancy, or
childhood/adolescence.
Some individuals were diagnosed with personality traits that were close to
meeting the criteria for personality disorders, which would bring the
personality disorder diagnosis to 44%.
