"Dysconscious Audism and Its Impact on the Deaf Community"
Genie Gertz
Assistant Professor in the Department of Deaf Studies at California
State University,
Northridge (CSUN).
Prior to earning a doctorate from UCLA in June 2003, Genie has earned a
B.A. degree and a M.A. degree from Gallaudet University and New York
University respectively. Born deaf, Genie came to America from St.
Petersburg, Russia at the age of eight years old. She is also currently
the Region IV NAD Board Member, and serves as a Coordinator of the "Deaf
Women Experts" group for World Federation of the Deaf. Her area of
interest focuses on exploring the social, cultural, linguistic, and
educational features that cause weaken Deaf Individuals' development of
Deaf consciousness and identity.
Lecture will be provided in American Sign Language (ASL)
