ADARA FORUMS PRESENTS
"CURRENT RESEARCH AT THE DEAF WELLNESS CENTER"
As part of the continuing series of on-line discussions, ADARA will be
offering a session on research within the deaf community. The
discussion on " Current Research At The Deaf Wellness Center" will be
led by Robert Pollard, Ph.D, on Monday, January 16h at 8:00 PM Central
Time (9 PM Eastern time, 6 PM Pacific Time) in the ADARA Chat Room.
Dr. Pollard, who is on the faculty at the Rochester University School of
Medicine, is a internationally respected researcher and trainer in the
area of deafness and mental health. He is also one of the most prolific
writers in this area as well, authoring hundreds of articles and book
chapters dealing with various aspects of psychology and people who are
deaf or hard of hearing. His landmark article, "Ethical Conduct in
Research Involving Deaf People," explores some of the unique facets of
conducting humane and respectful research with people who are deaf.
This session will focus on the research being done in Rochester
generally and the Deaf Wellness Center specifically. Integral to this
discussion will be ethical considerations and protocol moderations that
are necessary to remember when designing research.
ADARA is also pleased to announce that, for the first time ever,
continuing education credits will be awarded for ADARA members who
participate in the discussion. Each session will be worth 1.5 contact
hours. Please be sure to check the website (www.adara.org) prior to the
discussion for information on how to obtain CE credits.
Upcoming forums include "Health Care and Deaf People," led by Jacque
Dalton on February 20th, "Helping Deaf Child Victims of Trauma,
facilitated by Shannon Reese on March 20th and "Religious Organizations
and Advocacy," led by Rev. Jay Croft on April 17th. Other exciting
forums are in development and will be announced in the weeks ahead.
If you missed the previous forums, you will find transcripts on the
ADARA website.
To log onto the chat or to get transcripts, go to www.adara.org, scroll
