Sexual Abuse: Interpreters in Sensitive Situations

Workshop Objective:

Participants will  introduced to work within sexual abuse settings. 
Discussion will revolve around detection of sexual abuse in children and
adults and will examine the differences and similarities of working with
various populations.  Participants will be exposed to the stigma and
prevalence of sexual abuse within a historical context and will examine
current trends.  The training will explore sensitivity issues that should be
addressed when working with the deaf and hard of hearing populations.


Monthly Workshop Time:
4:30 - 6:30 PM

Cost: $10 for BAD/ALRID members. $15.00 to non-members.

JSU is approved by the RID CMP to sponsor Continuing Education
Activities. This program is offered for .2 CEU in the Content Area of
Professional Studies and has a Content Knowledge Level of Some. The
target audience for this activity is working interpreters, interpreter
students, and advanced signers. Participants will be provided a
certificate for .2 CEUs with the RID CMP/ACET logo. Due to the
increased cost of filing with RID for CMP/ACET there will be a $5.00
for any participant wanting RID tracking.

Directions:
Go to I-65 south bound and turn right at the first Oxmoor exit, go to
the
BP Gas station and turn right. Stay on that street all the way to the
top of the hill, dead end, and then turn left. Look for the name of the
building, Twin Towers East. If you are coming from the south, turn at
the first Oxmoor exit, turn left under I-65, then follow the same
directions. Go up the front stairs to the elevator on the right just
inside the door. Go down the elevator and then to the end of the hall on
