Description
For children with known hearing loss, the Boston Center for Deaf and
Hard of Hearing Children (BCDC) offers an interdisciplinary team
approach to evaluation and consultation services. The BCDC clinical team
includes hearing and Deaf professionals, all of whom are experienced in
working with infants, children, and adolescents who are deaf or hard of
hearing. Patients of BCDC span the pediatric age range - from infancy
through adolescence. Many present with complex developmental,
behavioral, psychosocial, medical, and/or learning problems in the
context of communicatively significant hearing loss.
Referrals to the clinic come from physicians, mental health
professionals, school administrators, social service agencies, and
parents. Evaluations conducted through BCDC may serve in establishing a
baseline of developmental status and then monitoring a child's
developmental progress, provide data on which to base decisions about
programming, and contribute to planning for services according to the
health care, therapeutic, and educational needs of the child and family.
Psychologists on the BCDC team participate in conducting interviews with
the child and family and conduct assessments of cognitive, psychomotor,
neuropsychological, social-emotional, and psychoeducational aspects of
the child as components of the comprehensive, interdisciplinary team
evaluation process.
Postdoctoral Training Opportunity
Applicants must have completed doctoral training in psychology, (Ph.D.
or Psy.D.) preferably in an APA-approved doctoral program, and have
successfully completed an APA-approved predoctoral internship in
psychology. Applications for one, one-year postdoctoral fellowship

development, in pediatric psychology, and in assessment is essential.
Strong testing experience, strong writing skills, demonstrated
commitment to working with deaf and hard of hearing children, and at
least conversational fluency in American Sign Language is required of
the successful candidate. Clinical opportunities will include:
participation on the Cochlear Implant team, psychological evaluation of
