DID YOU KNOW........
In terms of psychopathology, empirical evidence suggest that
prelingually deaf patients may show all the typical signs of
schizophrenia including auditory hallucinations and sign language
errors, which may be closely related to linguistic signs of formal
though disorder in hearing patients.
Additionally, in a study of prelingually deaf and hearing subjects (both
psychotic and nonpsychotic), hearing status had the only significant
impact on lipreading, schizophrenia could not be regarded as a source of
variance, despite the high levels of attention and information
processing which lipreading demands.
