far greater than hearing inpatients, with many staying over twenty years
in the system, possibly because of limited inpatient care and no
appropriate outpatient services (Vernon % Daigle-King, 1999).
However, Mental Health facilities specializing in Deafness report that
deaf patients stayed no longer than hearing patients with 97% staying
