Could you please post this email for us? Also, if you know of anyone
(deaf professionals or hearing interpreters) not on the list who might
be interested in submitting a chapter proposal, please forward this
email to them.
Thank you.

CALL FOR CHAPTER PROPOSALS
DEAF PROFESSIONALS
AND INTERPRETERS WORKING TOGETHER1
Edited by Peter C. Hauser, Karen L. Finch, & Angela B. Hauser
Since the advent of Public Law 94-142, the Americans with Disabilities
Act, the emergence of sign language linguistic studies, and the Deaf
President Now movement, more deaf persons have moved into a relatively
new frontier; that of receiving high levels of education and
professional positions. This book will be a compiled, edited book that
consists of chapters written by deaf professionals and interpreters who
work in a variety of settings such as medical, legal, education and
business. The purpose of the book is to encourage and inform sign
language interpreting students, practicing interpreters, and deaf
professionals of current practices in this non-traditional interpreting
situation where the deaf professional is the person in power and the
recipient of services is the hearing person. This book will address
issues and ethics relevant to professional situations and settings
ranging from the company social to the services rendered by the deaf
professional.
Proposals are invited for chapters that candidly explore the deaf
professionals and/or interpreters' experiences, advice, ideas,
anecdotes, expectations and resources to provide insight into the
relationships between them in specific disciplines regarding ethics and
the interpreting processes. We are particularly enthusiastic about
receiving proposals for chapters that focus on: (a) how deaf
professionals describe their interpreting needs; (b) what strategies
teams of deaf professionals and their interpreters have developed to
make the process work well within their discipline; (c) setting-specific
(i.e., medical, legal, etc.) and situation-specific (social, meeting,
etc.) demands; and, (d) issues that arise (power, boundaries, ethics,
etc.).
The deadline for submitting proposals is September 15, 2004. The
chapter proposals should be approximately 500 words. Writing style,
citations and references should adhere to APA style. Chapter proposals
should be submitted via email to Karen Finch at
klfdis@....
Prospective authors may communicate with the editors about the
appropriateness of their proposals using this email address. Proposals
will be reviewed and selected by the editors and the book will be peer
reviewed by the publisher's editorial board. Authors of accepted
proposals will be expected to provide their chapter (25 - 30
double-spaced pages in length) by July 1, 2005.
