Subject: Re: PRACTICE FOR SALE
Thanks for your e-mail. Let me try to answer some of [your questions].
First, if the person did not want to take the risk, they could just be an
independent contractor, and have the normal 60/40 split. This also would be
an "option to buy" with some kind of contract. The 60% would be based on
gross revenue. I would be willing to pay the rent ($600/month) that includes
utilities. The person would have to have a cellular phone (doesn't
everybody?) and pay city license for an operator, not for the establishment.
Then, after a few months, if she (my clients probably would not go for a
guy, in the most part) found what she needed, she could either buy it
outright and the 40% she had given me so far would go toward the purchase
price and give me the balance. Or she could continue the same deal with the
firm intent/contract to buy until balance be paid.
I have 32 clients who come regularly. I expect 2 of them may not come back.
Clients in the occasional list would be the most prone not to come back
because they would lose contact (although we would send a newsletter
advising them of the change) I believe most of my clients would miss me but
be very happy to have someone at the regular place at the regular time
giving them a similar treatment. I will spend time with the new person and
hiring someone with similarities. When I had a substitute last November,
clients were very happy and enjoyed the differences! A shock to my ego!
My buyer would receive everything: table, furniture, boombox, cassettes,
CDs, intake sheet, gift certificate blueprint, air purifier, bag for my
sheets etc... Of course, the independent contractor would have the use of it
all, too.
Right now I practice 4 days a week Mon Tues Thurs Fri, Monday 1.30 to 7.30,
the rest between 1 to 6.30. My rent is for 6 days a week, all day. The early
appointments have been set for my convenience and could be changed and if
other hours could be arranged including Saturdays, clients would be
increased. I rent from a hair salon. The owner is very nice and wants to
help.
We have now sold our house and expect to be gone by June 4th.
I am flexible as far as the asking price. I want some revenue, as reward for
having built up a practice. I especially want someone to meet my clients'
needs. I am willing to mentor the new person to meet those needs. It seems
reasonable to me and....doable.
Feel free to call me at 703 960-6425 if you have other questions.
Denise
