New to group

Hello everyone,
I have just joined this group to help me with a future student. I
teach in a small, rural school in West Virginia. Next fall, in my
first grade classroom, I will have a boy recently diagnosed with
Asperger's. I have absolutely no training on how to teach this
child or manage his behavior. I am desperately seeking information
and/or ideas to help me. I have researched the internet but have
found no straightforward suggestions on how to best teach this
child. No one in our school has any type of training on how to
handle his meltdowns and I feel like an injustice is being done to
this child. His mother appears to be uneducated and uninvolved in
his schooling so I feel like if I don't do everything I can to make
his time at school more productive, than I am hurting him instead of
helping him. I would like to be educated on dealing with all aspects
of his diagnosis so that I can then help his mother help him. I will
appreciate any suggestions on where to get information and or
training. I have been unsuccessful in finding any sort of training
seminars/conferences/workshops in my state. Any help of suggestions
will be very helpful!
Thank you
Christi in West Virginia
