Hi Tonya! I'm really new to all of this, too. My son was diagnosed this summer. He's three. I am getting more familiar with the sensory disorders, because my son has some, and has started therapy with an OT...I got the book, "The Out Of Sync Child" which has some awesome information, and the "Out of Sync Child Has Fun" has some really great activities in it... So, what are the signs that lead you to believe that he has aspergers? I think the two kind of go hand in hand, but that doesn't mean I'm right....like I said, I'm totally new to all this too!!!!! Levi doesn't really like to interact with other kids, I do home daycare and so he's been around a lot of kids since he was born, but never wanted to play with them, and was always off on his own. He can memorize ANYTHING...this morning he's singing "Big Brass Bed" by Josh Gracin....he's got the entire refrain memorized, which makes me realize I seriously need to censor what I listen to in the van...:) (LOVE that song, but isn't nearly as cool coming out of a three year old's vocal cords!!) Guess it's back to Little Bunny Foo Foo for me!! He would also tip all his trucks over and just spin wheels, line up his toy trains, (for hours), he can identify letters, numbers, colors, shapes, can count to twenty in spanish, (Thanks to Dora the Explorer) and says some other spanisih words that I don't know. (i didn't do well in foreign language) but he's never called me 'mom'. He doesn't answer questions, although since he's started school he's getting better. He can now say, "I want more" or "all done" at appropriate times, and just the other day he actually ate with a spoon. He has started to say, "Read a book' when he brings me a book, and he knows who 'grandpa' and 'grandma' are and will call them by name. He still likes to take my hand instead of telling me what he wants, and drags me across the house until we get where he wants to go...but there have been a lot of improvements. When you have an asperger's child, you just seem to be so much more in touch with them because there are just so many different ways of dealing with the day-to-day activities...and sometimes they communicate in ways only you understand. He's a pretty special little guy, and he's taught me a lot!!!
Is it Friday yet???![]()
