Having problems with message search?
Puberty has a significant impact on boys needing to bath regularly and brush their teeth. I think AS boys develop later so they may fall behind their peers in seeing the need to wash. Getting them out of the shower is the trick now.
When my AS son was in 6th grade, he was obsessive about germs and hand washing. The rest of him could be crusty, but he washed his hands until they were raw. Fortunately this passed.

I have an 11 yr old son with AS...seems we have the opposite problem..at least as far as bathing goes....he wants to bathe all the time....2 or 3 times a day ....brushing the teeth is another matter, he needs constant reminding and supervision to get it done. One thing that seems to be an incentive for bathing is lots of toys, and after helping him fix his hair and commenting on how handsome he looks and how yummy he smells, he seems to really eat that up

2. THIS one's important to me as well..
have any of you parents of asperger children, OR
any of the Asperger diagnosed out there gone through
any "biggie" changes in your lives...and what kinds
of things help to make getting through those changes
smoother...make the transitions easier..my son's dad and
I were divorced when he was 5, now he's 11...we've
basically still interacted as a family so that my
son could see his dad...His dad had no where to live,
so he still lives in the upstairs of my home...
That way, he spends time with his son...and is saving money for a home of some kind...(I make well)..
This spring I"m going to be selling this home though..my neighborhood's getting terrible...and we will
be moving from the only home my son remembers..
his dad will be moving with us...for awhile...a year
or two...then when my son is older, he and his dad
want to build a place out in the country..
I will be getting re-married in about 4 years..and
EVERYONE'S willing to take small baby-steps, and take
each change slowly..carefully...and with everyone's needs
in mind...
Any ideas on how to make change easier...other
than what i'm doing...one small step at a time? 0:)
I sure appreciate hearing ideas from others..
so many people have no clue about asperger's or
other related disorders...i live in little rock, arkansas, and our services here are lacking..as far
as understanding and qualified doctors go...at least
understanding and helping asperger children/adults..
