Re: [AIPL] American Normal

Hi Elizabeth,
I've been looking for a good book lately, maybe I'll check it out on your recommendation!

Also,I agree with you about The Out of Sync Child, I'd say it's a "must read".

Subject: [AIPL] American Normal

Hi Steph and anyone else out there:

I just finished American Normal.  I thought it was a really funny book.  My interpretation was that the author was trying to mock psychiatry.  He does make you ask some really good "think" questions.  I thought it was funny because one of the places he visits and describes is where I live and it was really strange to hear familiar streets and places in the book.  He also describes funny incidents and informs you on other topics.  I learned a little about a disease of the mind called "latah" and learned about how he entered a situation with an officer about to get a ticket and left the situation with the officer saluting him.

I recommend this as a book to check out on interlibrary loan, but if I had the chance again this is not a book I would spend money on.

Also, I am in the middle of The Out-of-Sync Child which I highly recommend.

Elizabeth

By the way, that's great that you were able to help that teacher out at the bookstore. I bet she'd be interested in a list such as this one.
