Job Vacancies at The South and South East Asia Regional Resource Centre on
Sexuality hosted by TARSHI.
TARSHI (Talking About Reproductive and Sexual Health Issues), an NGO based
in New Delhi, India, works towards expanding sexual and reproductive
choices in peopleˇ¦s lives, believing that all people have the right to
sexual well-being and a self-affirming, enjoyable sexuality.
As part of a new Ford Foundation funded initiative, TARSHI is setting up a
Resource Centre on Sexuality for the South and South East Asia Region. The
South and South East Asia Regional Resource Center on Sexuality aims to
increase knowledge and scholarship on issues of sexuality, sexual health
and sexual well being in this region. The Resource Centre will specially
focus on sexuality related work in China, India, Indonesia, the
Philippines and Vietnam. The Resource Center is part of a global
initiative that includes similar centres in Africa, Latin America and the
United States.
Specific programmatic goals are to:
Develop and build on the scholarship and capacity in the field of
sexuality in the South and South East Asia region with a view to transform
theory into practice
Enhance the conceptual understanding of the fields of sexuality,
gender and human rights and of their inter-linkages with socio-cultural
issues in the South and South East Asia region
Increase and consolidate the knowledge base and resources
available on issues of sexuality and sexual well-being in the South and
South East Asia region
The Resource Center will conduct a regional institute, a visiting scholars
program, bring out thematic publications, set up and maintain a library,
organise public lectures and events on sexuality issues and conduct other
relevant activities to meet its goals.
TARSHI has the following vacancies in its South and South East
Asia Regional Resource Center in New Delhi.
Program Director/Manager:
The Program Director/Manager will be responsible for developing the
Resource Centerˇ¦s activities at a regional level, under the guidance of
the Executive Director. S/he will also work closely with other staff and
assist in developing the activities of the Center to meet regional needs.
In addition to other responsibilities, s/he will be primarily responsible
for the visiting scholars program. Job title will depend on skills,
competence and professional experience.
A suitable candidate should possess: substantive knowledge of issues of
sexuality and rights; 7-8 years experience working on issues of sexuality;
sensitivity to cross-cultural issues; an appropriate higher degree in the
social sciences; the ability to network with individuals and organizations
at a national and international level and excellent interpersonal skills.
Also required are excellent communication and presentation skills, written
and verbal; keen intellectual, analytical and planning abilities; strong
decision-making abilities, and word processing skills on the computer.
Operations Director/ Manager:
The Operations Director/ Manager will be responsible for the overall
administration, management and maintenance of the Center. S/he will be
responsible for the smooth coordination of all activities and the
financial administration of the programs, ensuring that all legal, audit
and accounting procedures are followed and completed. S/he will also be
required to work closely with the Program Manager and nurture and maintain
excellent working relations amongst the staff, and network and liaise with
other organizations at a national level. S/he will supervise
administrative staff, ensure timely preparation and submission of
narrative and financial reports to donors. Job title will depend on
skills, competence and professional experience.
A suitable candidate should possess: 7-8 years experience working in
administrative and management positions in the development sector;
knowledge of management of project finance and budgeting; excellent
interpersonal skills; ability to coordinate the Resource Centerˇ¦s
activities with sound administrative and financial planning. Also required
are excellent communication skills both written and verbal; and good
planning and decision-making abilities. S/he must be proficient in using
the computer, especially MS Word and Excel.
The Research and Advocacy Coordinator:
The Research and Advocacy Coordinator will research, edit, reference and
collate thematic publications, coordinate reviews of articles solicited
and write policy briefs on issues of sexuality. These will result in
Resource Centre publications. S/he will also conceptualize, plan and
organise public lectures, discussions and events on issues of sexuality.
A suitable candidate should possess: sound knowledge and understanding of
issues of sexuality, and sexual and reproductive health and rights; 4-5
years of research and/or writing experience; an appropriate higher degree
in the social sciences; computer word processing skills; excellent writing
skills in English and good communication and presentation skills.
The Library and Publications Coordinator:
The Library and Publications Coordinator will be primarily responsible for
setting up, maintaining and updating the Resource Centre Library. S/he
will work in coordination with the Research and Advocacy Coordinator to
ensure timely production of Resource Centre publications.
A suitable candidate should possess: An appropriate degree in the social
sciences and a professional degree in Library Sciences; experience of 3-4
years working in a development agency library/resource center; possess
high competence in the use of computers, networks and software programs;
excellent communication skills both written and verbal; good coordination
and networking abilities.
