UNDP Regional Programme on HIV and Development: PROJECT: RAS/02/003:
REACH Beyond Borders.

Survey of initiatives/ programmes within the Asia Pacific region to
address HIV/AIDS related stigma and discrimination

Dear Collegues,

The UNDP Regional HIV and Development Programme (REACH) addresses the
development and trans-border challenges of HIV/AIDS in the region and
supports integrated and rights based responses that promote gender
equality, sustainable livelihoods and community participation,
working in partnership with Governments, bi-and multi-lateral
agencies and organisations of civil society. The programme covers 13
countries in the region namely: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan,
China, Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, India, Iran, Maldives,
Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Republic of Korea and Sri Lanka.

In our efforts to contain HIV/AIDS, stigma and discrimination has
been identified as one of the critical components. It was therefore
felt that there is an urgent need to identify responses, best
practices and lessons learnt across the region. In order to
facilitate this UNDP REACH is undertaking an online survey of
initiatives and programmes initiated within the Asia – Pacific region
to address HIV/AIDS related stigma and discrimination. Based on this
survey, we intend to bring out an inventory of such initiatives and
programmes. This would include seeking information from government
organisations, NGOs, PLWHA organisations, universities, research
foundations etc.

If your agency is carrying out initiatives/programmes in addressing
HIV/AIDS related stigma and discrimination, you are welcome to
participate in the survey. Since the information will be used in
public domain, participation is voluntary. Should you require any
more information regarding the survey you can contact us. Your
participation will add more value and make the inventory more
comprehensive. Please return the completed questionnaire to
hivproj.in@... within the next twenty (20) days.

We will appreciate if you could forward a copy of the questionnaire
to your colleagues who are carrying out such programmes.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your valuable
contribution.

Best regards,

Sonam Yangchen Rana
Senior Advisor and Programme Coordinator
UNDP Regional HIV and Development Programme
South and Northeast Asia
