Greetings from AIDS Prevention Association of Pakistan!

AIDS Prevention Association of Pakistan(APAP) is working on HIV/AIDS awareness,
in Lahore, in the Red Light area of Pattoki, Red Light area of Okara and in the
city of Chunain for seven years with out help of any donors. AIDS Prevention
Association is working totally on self-finance basis for seven years. It is
registered NGO and the executive member of Punjab Aids Consortium (PAC) working
under Govt of Pakistan. APAP is local coordinator 2003 of International Candle
Light memorial and has affiliation with NATPOW (National Trust for Population
Welfare) Please find enclosed the activity report of May 2003,informing you what

Lahore: Summery of the Activities of May 2003

Activities implementing by: AIDS Prevention Association of Pakistan:

AIDS Prevention Association of Pakistan (APAP) is working on HIV/AIDS awareness,
in Lahore, in the Red Light area of Pattoki, Red Light area of Okara and in
Chunain. AIDS Prevention Association is working totally on self-finance basis
for seven years. It is registered NGO and the coordinator of Punjab Aids
Consortium (PAC) working under Govt of Pakistan. APAP is local coordinator 2003
of International Candle Light memorial and has affiliation with NATPOW (National
Trust for Population Welfare)

The head office of AIDS Prevention Association of Pakistan is in Lahore, Gulberg
and the sub office is in Samanabad Lahore. Other sub offices are one is in Red
Light area of Pattoki, second is in Red Light area of Okara and the third is in
Chunain. In two offices of Red Light area we are providing literature about
HIV/AIDS, STD, awareness, information, condoms and counseling facilities to
prostitutes and their clients. In the office of Chunain we are providing the
awareness regarding HIV/AIDS to community and she males/ Hijras.

AIDS Prevention Association of Pakistan (APAP) is also working on the Urs of
religious persons where many prostitutions/ CSWs, Shemales/sex workers come and
promote business. AIDS Prevention Association of Pakistan has privilege to
initiate this activity in Lahore and its surrounding. In these Urses no one NGO
in Pakistan is working. APAP organizes awareness camp in Urs providing HIV/AIDS,
STDs awareness, Counseling facility, First aid facility and does some group
meetings with High Risk Groups.

Distribution of IEC Material:
Awareness pamphlets regarding HIV/AIDS, STDs were distributed among the factory
workers of Kot Lukh Pat Lahore. In this factory area thousands of workers do
work and have not adequate knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS and STDs.

Meeting with PLWHAs:
Two members of AIDS Prevention Association of Pakistan 6 HIV positive patients
house and did counseling with them. Dr H M Hanif shared their problems and did
counseling with them. They were told that APAP is trying to organize training
for them in order to eliminate their fear regarding disease. It would be
opportunity for them to meet other PLWHAs, working without any fears. Members
convinced them to adopt the positive attitude towards lives and instructed them
to adopt safe method so that their wives and community can be saved from the
horrible disease.

Disseminating Awareness regarding Reproductive Health:
Two members of APAP disseminating awareness regarding Reproductive Health in
Samanabad, where People have not adequate health facility as well as knowledge.
Female Members met with the females of city and gave them healthy tips regarding
Reproductive Health. The women of this city often suffer in the complications of
delivery and some die due to not have complete facility. Field workers were
informed by the community that some times these Daies/Mid wife use infected
equipments causes many infections.

Corner Meeting with the community, living near in Pattoki Red Light Area.
APAP organized the corner meeting with the community living near the Red Light
Area of Pattoki where they were informed what APAP is doing for them in order to
restore their health and to safe them from deadly diseases. Community
appreciated their efforts and assured their support with AIDS Prevention
Association of Pakistan.

Visits of Red Light Area Pattoki:
Two members visit in the Red Light of Pattoki where APAP changed the office with
many difficulties. Members met with CSWs and informed them about the activities
of APAP, working with the aim of, to save the high risk people from HIV/AIDS,
growing very incessantly in Pakistan. With the perpetual and continual efforts
of APAP, the attitude of CSWs is growing polite and cooperative. They expressed
their needs and regarding prevention but due to the financial limitations, APAP
was not in position to address their needs but they were assured that APAP would
try to solve them in order to safe them from variety of infections.

Monthly Meetings:
Monthly meeting was held in the sub head office of APAP in which all the members
participated. Meeting was started with the name of ALLAH and then informed about
the new activities of APAP. General Secretary informed the members about the
milestones achieved by APAP.
President appreciated the efforts of members in organizing the International
AIDS candle Light Memorial day, which was very successful and many PLWHAs and
community leaders participated. He stated that APAP is doing all these
activities with out any support but due to courage, dedication and commitment.
He resolved that APAP would continue these kinds of program in order to aware
community regarding the perils and hazards of HIV/AIDS so that they can save
themselves.

Education Secretary Dr. Kulsoom Akhtar re-expressed its suggestion, expressed in
previous meetings that APAP should expand its network all over the world with
the aim of to aware international organizations about the activities of APAP and
the response of the mails should be quick. General Secretary replied that we
have start to act upon on this suggestion and although APAP has financial
limitations yet the answer of all the mails sent as prompt as possible and many
international organization throughout the world are included in the mailing list
of APAP, that receive all monthly reports of the activities carried out by APAP.
He also said that APAP is including in the mailing list of several international
and national forms and are sharing its reports with them.

Participation in the Meeting:
General Secretary of AIDS Prevention Association of Pakistan, Dr. Haji Hanif
participated in the meeting of Punjab AIDS Consortium where APAP was selected a
coordinator
