Chinese delegation studies AIDS prevention project

A high-level Chinese railway delegation visited the city today to
gain first hand information of the Railway Women Empowerment and
AIDS Prevention Society (RWEAPS) pilot project in the context of
HIV/AIDS in India.

Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) J N Jagannath told
reporters here this evening that the delegation was keen to
implement the project in China with support from United Nations
Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).

The aim of the project was to conduct HIV prevention awareness
campaigns and the use of the condoms.

He said railway employees in ''D'' category were highly affected by
the disease. There was a need to prevent the epidemic and provide
care and support for the infected and affected persons.
