Dear colleague,
The Sexually Transmitted Infections including HIV/AIDS (HSI) Focus of WHO
Regional Office for the Western Pacific is pleased to announce that "HIV/AIDS
Care and Treatment: Guide for Implementation" is now available at the following
site;
http://www.wpro.who.int/themes_focuses/theme1/focus4/pub_doc.asp
The guide articulated key elements of HIV/AIDS care and treatment, service
delivery model (e.g. day care centre at district/intermediate level as key
mechanism for day-to-day local partnership), service package for each level of
health system, and operational procedures to implement the key elements of
HIV/AIDS care and treatment including ART.
The guide was developed through extensive consultation with country and regional
experts in the region, as well as WHO staff members at all levels, taking into
account the situation and evolving experiences of countries in the region.
It is expected to serve as an interim reference guide for the development of
national implementation guides as well as national training programmes on
HIV/AIDS care and treatment. We would like to express our sincere thanks to
those who contributed to the preparation of the document.
The guide will be revised soon based on early implementation experience. We
would appreciate it if you could send us your comments and suggestions to Dr.
