Women living with HIV take to platform for prevention
The return of red ribbon express from its journey culminated in a small event
organized by NACO which coincided with the World AIDS Day (December 1, 2008)
Using the opportunity for advocacy, a group of 30 women living with HIV from
Positive Women Network representing 10 states of India took to the platform of
Safdarjung enclave where the event was hosted.
To garner the attention of the national program managers in a peaceful manner,
they held placards ‘We are women living with HIV’ ‘We are GIPA’ ‘Where are women
in Prevention?’ ‘Listen to Women living with HIV’ ‘We need action’
They invited the dignitaries from national AID S program, ministry of Railways,
Nehru Yuva Kendra, and representatives of various national international donor
organizations, civil society and community based organizations and requested
them to take part of the campaign ‘ Prevention for women’. Each one of them
after listening to the objective of the campaign appended their signatures in
the panel that was positioned on the red ribbon express. Event was covered by
the media.
