You will need 8 questions per category. We play the game with a grp of
folks,12-14 people even more could play. We just start with a person,
ask them to pick a category, and for how much. If they get it right
then we give that person that money card. If they don't get it right
we ask someone else. If no one gets it right we just put it aside. The
person with the most points wins, and we usually give them a dollar.

board. We think of different topics, themes or songs, etc. we put down
lines where the letters go and start from one end of the group. We
announce the theme, topic or song, etc. asking the first person to
pick a letter, and to keep picking till they get a letter wrong. Then
it goes to the next person, etc.. Anyone can yell out the answer. The
first person to get it wins 100 dollars. The person to have the most
money at the end of the game wins. We give a dollar.

Thanks for the info.........I just might have to buy some more frogs myself.  I'm planning to update "Activities on a Shoestring" in about 4 weeks (after my mother's visit is over).  I think I'll put this link with the frog toss game section.

Again, thanks!

Boy, do I feel silly!  I guess NASCO no longer carries the bean bag frogs............but you might check out the toy section of your local stores.  They may have bean bag type frogs that could be used for frog toss.

Good luck in your search.

You will find frog toss on "Activities on a Shoestring" website.  I don't know if it was a game before I started doing it at my facility.  We got a blue sheet and sewed green felt lilly pads on it.  We purchased the beanie frogs from Nasco.  Our residents would toss the frogs toward the lilly pads.  Of course, the object of the game was to see how many frogs you could get on the lilly pads.  If you want to keep score, assign values (5, 10, 15, etc.) to the lilly pads.  If you want to make it more interesting, add numbers to the frogs..........a # 2 frog on a #10 lilly pad = 20 points!

On March 1st (National Pig Day), we turned the sheet over and put patches of brown felt on it.  The residents then threw pound piggies at the 'mud puddles'.  Over the years, we made pig ears for the residents to wear (tan and pink felt with elastic cord) and added a hog calling contest.

ask them to pick a category, and for how much. If they get it right

I have asked them at council but they say we don't know we just want to play something different and you meaning me find something new. they don't have no suggestions. i have spoiled my residents they know it and i do too. lol!!  drowning nickels is like a carnival game i get a table set up with ten cups half full of water and set them up on the table just lining them up differently. the resident is handed 10 nickels to try and throw in the cups. the resident who gets the most nickels in the cups at the end of the game wins the roll of nickels that we used which is $2 we go by their abilities as to how far they have to be from the table when they throw. the grocery game is like bingo there are different items on the cards which kinda look like grocery lists with 5 items on them then you have a master card that looks like a board game with different items all around the board and a dice. we usually go around the room and call each residents name who is playing and say mrs. smith i rolling for you and say you roll a 3 then you move 3 spaces on the master board and say you land on bread then you call bread and whoever has it on their card they cover it, the first resident to fill their card hollers "i got my groceries" lol and they win a quarter then we start over and usually we play about 6 games

GM Wilson <greenduckmoma@...> wrote:
wow I agree with Brenda on asking at resident council that is what I would do also and document it as she said.  We do like a easy trivia game as team groups, some times we make the answers mutiple choice if needed.  But I would like to ask what is Drowning nickels  and I assume that the grocery game is kinda like the price is right with grocery items?

through 800 dollar bills that we made out of card stock paper. We put
those on the bulletin board 100 through 800 under the categories. We
get the trivia questions from the internet for the categories chosen.
The
person with the most points wins, and we usually give them a dollar.

announce the theme, topic or song, etc. asking the first person to
pick a letter, and to keep picking till they get a letter wrong. Then
it goes to the next person, etc.. Anyone can yell out the answer. The
first person to get it wins 100 dollars. The person to have the most
money at the end of the game wins. We give a dollar.

Hi Sunday,
Some game ideas for you:

Jeapordy, we have a homemade one. We use a bulletin board and push pins. We think of 5 categories we type them up on word and print them, those go at the top of the board. Then we have 100 dollar bills through 800 dollar bills that we made out of card stock paper. We put those on the bulletin board 100 through 800 under the categories. We get the trivia questions from the internet for the categories chosen. You will need 8 questions per category. We play the game with a grp of folks,12-14 people even more could play. We just start with a person, ask them to pick a category, and for how much. If they get it right then we give that person that money card. If they don't get it right we ask someone else. If no one gets it right we just put it aside. The person with the most points wins, and we usually give them a dollar.

Wheel of Fortune, is played very similar to hang man. We use a white board. We think of different topics, themes or songs, etc. we put down lines where the letters go and start from one end of the group. We announce the theme, topic or song, etc. asking the first person to pick a letter, and to keep picking till they get a letter wrong. Then it goes to the next person, etc.. Anyone can yell out the answer. The first person to get it wins 100 dollars. The person to have the most money at the end of the game wins. We give a dollar.
I hope this helps?
Amy

wow I agree with Brenda on asking at resident council that is what I would do also and document it as she said.  We do like a easy trivia game as team groups, some times we make the answers mutiple choice if needed.  But I would like to ask what is Drowning nickels  and I assume that the grocery game is kinda like the price is right with grocery items?

put the ball in their court....... ...ask them what 'new games' they would like to play.  i would do this at a resident council meeting so you can have documentation on their response.  if they suggest a feasible game, try it.  if they don't have any suggestions, record it in the resident council minutes and table it for a while.  you may want to ask again at the next meeting or two.  after that, if they have no suggestions, it shouldn't be a problem.  besides, it looks like you have a good variety anyway.

Last year, I came in the night before the 4th of July & we had
watermellon (around 7:00) then we went outside & did *small*
fireworks. (Ok'd by the Admin) ... I found cute watermellon invites,
filled them out and hung them through the facility so families would
see them. We had a GREAT turnout. Most of the family came for supper
& stayed for the watermellon. - However, most family members left
when we went to do fireworks... but the CNA's really came through -
they helped greatly!

I too am working Memorial Day. We are doing a BBQ for the residnets and staff
only.

Normally, I work the holidays, our Adm likes one of us to be there on big
function days.
(There are two of us Dept heads for Act). Sometimes I take an extra day off
but not always.

Do you guys invite families in your BBQ's? We have one big party each month
May-June-
July-Aug and Sept and we always include the families. We seem to have better
turn out on
the holidays, IF we have a meal for them or ice cream social or something food
related.

Have a wonderful weekend!

When I was the only one I would rotate holidays and work some of them.
On those that I did not work I would often recruit family members to do
whatever they had a talent for. Remember, there will be lots of
families in and out on the holiday and lots of social time for even
those roommates that don't have family.
