Blue Green Algae: Not Recommended for Children
The major concern with blue-green algae supplements is that they could be contaminated with toxic substances. Other algae growing in the same water are known to produce highly toxic substances called microcystins, similar to the red tides that occasionally occur in the ocean and cause massive fish kills. In large doses, microcystins produce acute liver failure, brain damage and death.

New FDA Warning for Kava
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a statement last week warning consumers about products that contain the herb kava. This statement was prompted by several reports from Europe and the United States linking serious liver-related injuries to use of kava-containing supplements. More than 25 cases of hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver failure have been cited, with four individuals requiring liver transplants.
