Book Adventure
Parents and teachers looking for ways of motivating youngsters to read will find Book Adventure a wonderful resource. Students can read books, take quizzes on them, and earn points for correct answers on the quizzes. Kids can redeem accumulated points for prizes. There is a database of quizzes on more than 3,000 popular children's titles. Using Book Finder, readers can search the titles by author, title, grade level, or interests. Book Finder will then create a reading list that can be printed and used at the library. After reading a book, children go to Quiz-O-Matic to take the corresponding quiz. Quizzes have from five to ten questions, depending on grade level. Teachers or parents can register their children and select literature at the appropriate grade level. There is also a mechanism for keeping track of children's scores and points earned. Teachers or parents can generate reports. http://www.bookadventure.com/ |

Leveled Book Lists
These lists are in alphabetical order by the authors' names and include two or three different sets of levels within each grade. Please remember that children learn at different rates for many different reasons. These lists are given as a way to choose books that will be at a child's level of development. Grade levels are not the important factor in choosing a book. You must start where children are and move from there because children, who are at the beginning stages of reading, need books that are "Just Right" . This list is not intended to limit children's reading. Children can still enjoy books at a challenging level, at a comfortable level as well as an easy level. http://home.comcast.net/~ngiansante/ |

Lexile Book Database
Search for the Lexile reading level of a book by title, author, lexile range, keyword or ISBN. Sort the results list by author, title, or lexile range. --- The Lexile Book Database is a list of books with Lexile measures. The Lexile measure of a book refers to its text difficulty only. A Lexile measure does not take the subject matter or content of the book into consideration. Lexile measures are based on two well-established predictors of how difficult a text is to comprehend: word frequency and sentence length. Many factors other than these affect the relationship between a reader and a book, including its content, the age and interests of the reader, and the design of the actual book. The Lexile measure is a good starting point in your book-selection process, with these other factors then being considered. http://www.lexile.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?view=ed&tabindex=5&tabid=67 |
