A Comprehensive Guide for Parenting the ADHD Child
A Comprehensive Guide for Parenting the ADHD Child provides parents, educators, and mental health professionals with a combination of research-based, field-tested strategies that can be used to help them to overcome these difficulties. The research shows that medication combined with behavioral, cognitive, and educational methods is the most effective approach in treating ADHD. It is the non-medication approaches that are often overlooked or underutilized, however. The programs presented in this book are designed to train the child to concentrate, to complete assignments, and to plan ahead. It is the application of these psychologically and educationally based interventions that teach ADHD children to gain the self-control and confidence needed to face the many challenges confronting them. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1413775780/103-4943736-7303064?v=glance&n=283155&s=books&v=glance |

Amalgam Illness, Diagnosis and Treatment : What You Can Do to Get Better, How Your Doctor Can Help by Andrew Hall Cutler
Amazon Review - I first heard about this book on the Yahoo! Autism-Mercury board. People would refer to it and it took me a while to go ahead and buy it. I just was not in a hurry to spend that money, but honestly, I wish I had bought it sooner! It is worth every penny! It is packed full of information about why we should consider amalgam and mercury/metal toxicity in regards to our health and the health of our children, and what to do about it. By using the principles in this book, I have been able to help my son by eliminating his diagnosis, which then resulted in him being dismissed from special education services altogether. He's doing wonderfully! I *highly* recommend this book. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/0967616808/104-0408678-7701550?_encoding=UTF8&n=283155&s=books |

Getting Rid of Ritalin: How Neurofeedback Can Successfully Treat Attention Deficit Disorder Without Drugs by Robert W. Hill
After observing medical success using biofeedback training to treat epilepsy and other health/behavioural conditions, Doctors Castro and Hill began using neurofeedback (a sophisticated form of brainwave biofeedback) to treat patients diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). The results were astonishing. Their book argues that the benefits of neurofeedback training far outweigh those of the symptom-attacking drugs such as ritalin that do not cure ADD. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1571742549/qid=1097244623/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/104-1202836-1696753?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 |

Learning Outside The Lines : Two Ivy League Students With Learning Disabilities And Adhd Give You The Tools
The introduction (personal histories of the authors) is great reading for parents of LD or ADHD kids, and much of it has a humorous tone that makes it equally appropriate (and approachable) for discouraged adolescents. From the terror of weekly spelling tests to the few inspiring teachers and tutors the two encountered, the tales are equal parts entertaining, poignant, and encouraging to others who may well be experiencing quite similar events. There's little discussion of what methods are right or wrong--ultimately, both authors take a fundamentally pragmatic view, and it's "right" if it worked. A steady focus on study skills fills the majority of the book, and Mooney and Cole take what are generally pretty familiar stands on note-taking and test preparation and break them down into easily digestible concepts. With different methods for different types of learners (visual thinkers are encouraged to use maps and brightly colored markers), students will find plenty of help in creating notebooks, focusing their attention, and even appropriate ways of conducting the infamous all-nighter. Including information on how to recover lost class notebooks, how to make the most of a syllabus, and "The Seven Habits of Highly Disorganized People," Learning Outside the Lines provides students with plenty of tools to further each reader's personal idea of success. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/068486598X/qid=1112702371/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/002-7640910-5047228?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 |

This best-selling book puts the reader right into the middle of a fictional workshop, sitting with other frustrated parents, asking questions and working out solutions. Taking Charge of ADHD, Revised Edition: The Complete, Authoritative Guide for Parents - by Russell A. Barkley
Posted by a list member - I bought the book at our doctor's recomendation, and when I started reading it, I thought maybe the author had set up hidden cameras in our house. LOL Everything seemed tailor-fit to our family. The Little Monster: Growing Up With Adhd by Robert Jergen
From Robert Jergen - It is about my life with ADHD, how it affected me growing up (e.g., how constantly being told to "try harder!!!", "pay attention!!!," "control yourself!!!!" etc. turned me into a depressed, suicidal adolescent), and --- more importantly, how I turned ADHD into a good thing. Not to brag or anything, but ADHD has helped me tremendously. I got my Ph.D. in half the time as my "normal" peers. I have written and published six books in three years... The little monster took me 4 weeks to write.... And now, I am a 'successful' and very happy adult. I wrote the Little Monster to give parents and teachers an idea of what their students/children with ADHD experience. Telling them to "try harder" doesn't help. It actually makes the situation much worse. I also wanted to give people strategies that have helped me turn ADHD into a "superability". My hyperactivity is now a "hyper-productivity" and I am far more attentive than I used to be. http://www.scarecroweducation.com/Catalog/SingleBook.shtml?command=Search&db=^DB/CATALOG.db&eqSKUdata=1578861047 |

You're Smarter Than You Think: A Kid's Guide to Multiple Intelligences by Thomas Armstrong, Jennifer Brannen
Grade 6-9-Armstrong believes that by helping kids identify their strengths they will be able to know themselves better and make the most of their talents. To this end, he devotes one chapter to each of the intelligences that psychologist Howard Gardner has identified but phrases them in terms that young readers will understand; for example, he uses "word smart" for linguistic intelligence and "picture smart" for spatial intelligence. Each chapter begins with a quiz to help readers determine in what ways they are "people smart," "logic smart," etc. The text that follows discusses what these intelligences are, lists ways to develop or improve them, and suggests possible careers for people with different strengths and interests. An annotated bibliography at the end of each chapter lists books, magazines, organizations, and Web sites. Occasional blue spot-art cartoons illustrate the text. A self-help book that's clear, concise, and fun to peruse. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1575421135/qid=1113617077/sr=12-1/103-4951524-0164651?v=glance&s=books |
