My 11 year old son has been suspended from school for misbehaving in
school. He tried to set off the fire alarm and was chanting beer,
beer, beer in the lunch room. This wasn't the first time he's been
suspended. My wife and I got some books on ADHD that are against
medications. My son Zach takes Adderall, Depakote and Geodon. All
those drugs haven't really helped out any and I hate the idea of
drugging my son. We took him off of all the drugs and have started a
program of positive reinforcement. He gets time out for misbehaving
and the punishment is boredom for him. We praise him for behaving
well so what we're trying to do is re-teach him some behaviors. The
book we got is by David Stein. Anyone else tried this approach...it's
supposed to work in about 2 to 3 weeks. I'll let you know how this is
going later. For now we're going to home school Zach because he can't
get an education as it stands now.
