I'm 40 years old, and was diagnosed and treated as a child, but
rebelled and quit taking the medications in my early teens.
I got through college, and have worked and managed to get by without it
all these years, though I've never felt I lived up to my potential.
Now I'm seeing more and more clearly that I need some treatment for
this - I identified greatly with the poster who talked about going from
doing the dishes to taking the trash out to dusting to wiping the
handprints off the tv. Organizing paperwork is exhausting and much too
time consuming to me.
My question is this: do I go to a PCP or am I going to have to see a
psychiatrist? Our compay health insurance isn't great to begin with,
and certainly isn't very generous with the 'mental health' benefits.
Finances would be an issue if services weren't covered. Besides, I
truely don't want to get into therapy and dredge up old family issues
just to get medication that would help me focus and concentrate.
I actually don't even have a PCP at the moment, because the one I was
seeing isn't on my new insurance plan.
Any suggestions?
