Hi,
I am a mother of an 8 year old girl whose intelligence has been tested
off the charts. She is in a supposedly gifted class, but her teacher
has repeatedly told me that most of the kids in there don't even read
at a 2nd grade level. Her teacher continuly tells me that she has
ADD/ADHD and is difficult to handle. When I gave her proof my
daughter's IQ, she just dismissed it. My main question is this, can
children with ADD have a genius IQ? A lot of my research has
indicated that children with ADD suffer generally from all different
types of learning disorders. She definitely doesn't have any learning
disorders, but she does have an extremely hard time sitting still and
completing her tasks in class. I just don't know what to do anymore!
Her teacher is border-line belligerent with me - almost like she
can't wait to tell me what my daughter did wrong during the day. I am
not a mom who thinks my kid is perfect, I know she can be difficult
and very emotional and sometimes doesn't tell the whole truth about
situations (fear of repercussions - she knows right from wrong, but
makes the wrong decisions sometimes - which I think is normal for
kids). Any advice would be appreciated. Oh, and no, I have not had
her tested yet for ADD. My husband and I had her IQ tested first and
were waiting to see how the school would respond to the tests -
obviously, the response was a non-response.
Thanks so much,
Ashley
