I am in need of some information and advise. I am the father of a
very active 4 year old boy. His mother and I have been divorced for
about 3 years, but we are still equal partners in the raising of our
kids. Can a child at the age of 4 or even 5 be diagnosed as having
ADD, ADHD or ODD ?? I have been to several information sites and read
all the criteria that is listed to help evaluate these disorders, and
this is my problem...All of the symptoms they list are all
characteristics exibited by typical 2 to 6 year old children, but I am
seeing so many parents buying into the diagnosis that their child has
a disorder. My sons mother is also buying into this and is repeatedly
taking him to see a therapist. My issue with that is... All a
therapist can do with a child of his age is just monitor his actions
and offers no real treatment, but yet has no problem charging his
normal hourly rate when she keeps bringing him back. So please if any
of you have any words of wisdom or advise please help.
