This story sounds like mine. My son was dx with ADD, but after given ritalin,
adderall, strattera, and even trying lexapro for his depression, he actually
became worse. Sure his concentration at school was better, but overall, he was
very angry all the time, and became alot worse during the evening. I have come
to the conclusion that these psychiatrists are a bunch of idiots that want to
experiment on our children when what they really need is some counseling and
alot of patience when it comes to their school work. If medicaid won't cover
counseling, think about seeking counseling through a church organization. Alot
of times, there are Christian therapists that will cousel without charging alot,
or maybe nothing at all. Good luck.

My son was recently diagnosticated with ADHD. After consulting with
his pediatrician and two psychiatrist, he was prescribed Adderall XR
5mg. I've notice some improvement on his behavior and ability to pay
atention in school. Problem is, around 3pm, I guess the medication
starts wearing off and he gets wild. Bursts into tears for very
little things, running around the house, not listening, climbing and
hitting his older brother. I fear for his safety and that of his
brother and baby sister. I don't know if he needs a stronger dose,
and we have an appointment in 2 weeks with psych. Meanwhile, I don't
know how to help him modify his behavior. We work on a positive
reinforcement for good behavior plan, and 'time out' for bad behavior
but doesn't always work. We
have Medicaid, and it doesn't cover counseling. We are trying to
find affordable help, since I suspect there are other issues (his
father and got divorced when he was 2). He also has very low self
esteem, and his father doesn't help by telling him he is going to
send him to juvenile jail (he even took him to the police station
and the police officer played along). Now the child thinks he is a
bad boy, a mistake. How can I help my son? I am a very pacient
person, but sometimes he really gets to me. I don't want to loose it
and yell at him and make him feel worse, but I can't let him go wild
either. Any advice will help. Thank you in advance!
