I am possibly making aliyah this coming summer (with my family). I was
hoping you would have some guidance or contacts to help me with one
specific area. My 11 year old daughter (presently in the 6th grade,
attending a reuglar school) has ADD. she is very scholastically capable
& has been keeping-up with her class very well (grades are usually in
the 90's across all subjects!!). she gets resource room help to keep
organized and help her be prepared for class and tests. she has
a "504" (in NY), that provide her with the right to get extra testing
time on exams, modified homework, frequent breaks, verbal testing
instructions, teacher's class notes.....all these help her be a
successful student. without them, she is overwhelmed and unsure of what
her responsibilities are. her biggest challenges are orginization,
staying focused thru-out a whole lesson & independent work.
so here are the questions: what have parents who make aliyah with
children who have similar needs experienced? are there good resources
to keep her on track with her work at school? does a child with ADD
have a harder time adjusting socially or academically? have you heard
any success or disaster stories? should her adjustment issues be
considered out of the norm?
any info would be appreciated
